How to treat insect bites, scrapes, or minor burns
A practical guide to summer first aid
Summer beckons us to get outside – to the water, to nature, to hikes. But with it comes an increased risk of minor injuries: insect bites, abrasions on a bike, or burns while grilling. Knowing how to react quickly and correctly can prevent inflammation, worsening of a wound, and unnecessary pain.
1. Insect bites
We most often encounter mosquitoes, wasps, ticks or bedbugs. The body's reaction is unpleasant, but in most cases not dangerous - unless there is an allergic reaction.
What to do:
- Wash the area with clean water or an antiseptic solution (e.g. Clisodine ) to prevent infection.
- Apply a cold compress or cooling gel to reduce swelling.
- If severe itching occurs, an antihistamine or a suitable cream from a pharmacy will help.
- Never squeeze a tick – carefully remove it with tweezers and disinfect the area.
When to see a doctor?
If you develop breathing difficulties, severe swelling, rash or fever.
2. Abrasions and minor injuries
Children, athletes, cyclists – abrasions are a typical “summer injury.” Although they seem banal, they are an open gateway for infection.
FIRST AID KIT:
- Rinse or clean the wound with a mild antiseptic solution that does not burn or irritate – Clisodine is ideal.
- Remove dirt if visible.
- Let it dry for a while, or cover it with a sterile dressing.
- Check the healing regularly – redness, pus or pain are signs of infection.
3. Minor burns
We sometimes get burned while grilling or cooking – usually slightly. A quick reaction determines how painful and healing the wound will be.
What will help:
- Immediately cool the burned area under lukewarm running water (not ice!) for 10–15 minutes.
- Dry gently and treat with an antiseptic that protects against infection (e.g. Clisodine ).
- Do not pop blisters – the skin protects the underlying tissue.
- Cover with a sterile bandage and monitor progress.
Why use Clisodine?
Clisodine is a modern antiseptic solution suitable for these situations:
- Alcohol-free – does not burn even sensitive skin
- Protects against infection – destroys bacteria, viruses and fungi
- Suitable for children too
- Creates a protective film and promotes safe healing
Tip: What to have in your summer first aid kit?
- Antiseptic spray (eg Clisodine)
- Sterile squares and plasters
- Cooling gel for bites
- Tweezers and disinfectant wipes
- Natural repellent
